Inspiration sessions

Introduce your team to science communication

Need a short, engaging session for a research day, conference, doctoral school or faculty-wide event? Inspiration sessions spark motivation, build awareness and give researchers concrete first steps.

  • Usually around 1.5 hours
  • Suitable for groups of around 20–50 participants
  • Available in Dutch and English
  • Built around your audience and event theme
  • Choose one of the topics below or ask us to design a new one

Possible topics

Inspiration sessions your researchers can relate to

Some groups need broad inspiration; others need a concrete skill or a fresh angle for a research day, doctoral school or faculty event. These topics can be booked as short inspiration sessions, or expanded into a more hands-on training.

Inspiration session

Stand out as an expert

In a media interview, you often have only a few seconds to deliver your research story clearly. This session gives researchers seven concrete tips to make sure their key message does not get diluted, but lands exactly where it should. Participants learn how newsrooms operate, how to approach them, and how to position themselves as credible experts.

Inspiration session

Failing forward

Failure is inseparable from science, yet often hidden in the shadows. This session explores how researchers can handle setbacks constructively and turn them into something valuable and instructive — honest, practical and without taboos.

training

Storytelling for scientists

This session explores how storytelling helps scientists share their work in a way that sticks. We look at narrative structures such as the Hero’s Journey and the ABT framework, and translate them into concrete tools for stronger openings, clearer tension and more memorable messages.

Inspiration session

Out of frame? Inclusive science communication

What if the way you talk about your research unintentionally leaves people out? This session explores how to make communication more accessible, thoughtful and inclusive, while avoiding blind spots, assumptions and excluding language.

Inspiration session

Start to SciComm

Many researchers want to engage in science communication, but do not know where to start. This session helps participants choose a format that suits them, define realistic first steps and start without feeling overwhelmed.

training

From paper to post: LinkedIn for researchers

This session zooms in on LinkedIn for science communication. How do you translate complex research into sharp, engaging posts? How do you build a professional presence and reach peers, funders, journalists or policymakers without losing authenticity?

Training

Camera training

For researchers invited for television, radio or video, this training gives a first practical introduction to appearing confident and compelling on camera. We work on body language, eye contact and vocal use, with immediate practice in a safe setting and direct feedback.

How it works

A session shaped around your context

We do not simply copy-paste an existing course. We first clarify what your participants need, then design a format that is realistic for your timing, group size and desired outcome.

1

We discuss your goals.
What should participants understand, practise or produce by the end?

2

We design the format.
We propose a session, workshop or trajectory with the right balance of input, examples and exercises.

3

We deliver the session.
Our trainers bring hands-on expertise and adapt to the group during the session.

4

We can include feedback.
For practical courses, we can add individual or group feedback on texts, pitches, visuals or videos.
