About SciComm Academy

Hands-on science communication training

SciComm Academy offers science communication training for researchers, PhD candidates and research teams who want to communicate their work clearly beyond academia.

Through hands-on courses, free Lunch Talks and tailor-made workshops, we help scientists develop practical skills in popular science writing, presenting, media interviews, storytelling, visuals, video, podcasting and more.

Common doubt

“My research is too niche.”

Many researchers think their topic is too specific for a broader audience. Often, the story is there already. It just needs the right angle.

Common challenge

“It’s too difficult to understand.”

Complexity is not the problem. The challenge is finding a structure, example or format that helps people enter the subject.

Common misconception

“Science doesn’t work outside academia.”

People are interested in science, especially when it connects to their questions, decisions, work, concerns or imagination.

Our mission

From complex ideas to stories that resonate

Our mission is to help researchers translate complex scientific ideas into clear stories, presentations and public-facing formats. Through practical science communication courses led by experienced trainers, participants move from a first idea to a concrete output.

  • A popular science article that keeps nuance without becoming heavy.
  • A pitch or presentation that gives an audience a reason to care.
  • A poster, infographic or visual that makes structure visible.
  • A podcast, video or social media format that fits the message and the researcher.

What we do

Training, inspiration and practical support

Whether you are an individual researcher, doctoral school, faculty or research consortium, SciComm Academy offers science communication courses and workshops that make public engagement more concrete and manageable.

Courses

Hands-on learning

Our regular courses help researchers practise concrete skills such as writing, presenting, pitching, media interviews, infographics, AI, video and podcasting.

Lunch Talks

Free inspiration

Each month, we invite speakers to share ideas, cases and questions from the science communication field, in accessible online sessions.

Tailor-made

For teams and institutions

We design custom sessions for faculties, doctoral schools, research groups and institutes, adapted to your audience, theme and timing.

Why it matters

Science communication helps research travel further

Science communication informs public debate, strengthens trust in research, supports better decisions and helps people see how science connects to their lives. In a world shaped by complex challenges, researchers need more than expertise alone. They also need ways to make that expertise accessible, credible and meaningful.

We do not believe that every researcher needs to become a performer or influencer. We do believe every researcher can learn to communicate with more clarity, confidence and care.

About SciMingo

An initiative by SciMingo

SciComm Academy is an initiative by SciMingo, a Brussels-based nonprofit that supports researchers in sharing science with broader audiences.

You might know SciMingo from projects such as the Flemish Dissertation Award, the Flemish PhD Cup and SciComm Clips. With the Academy, we bring that experience into practical training for researchers, doctoral schools, faculties and research organisations.
