Science, we need to talk

During his Ph.D. Martijn discovered a new passion: science communication. He quickly turned this into his profession. At first he worked as a Science Communication Officer for Hasselt University after which he transferred to DPG Media where he now coordinates and produces science and climate related news content for various media outlets. As a scientist who communicates with different audiences on a daily basis, Martijn understands the importance of good science communication. But why is communicating about science so important? Are there benefits of investing time and energy into it as a scientist? And what are the hallmarks of good science communication? In this opening lecture, Martijn will address these topics.

Bio

Dr. Martijn Peters is currently the ‘Science & Weather Coordinator’ at DPG Media, the largest media company of Belgium. Over the past years, he received multiple prestigious awards for his many outreach efforts, has consulted researchers on how to reach their full communication potential for personal branding, and has spoken or hosted multiple events. He translates scientific subjects through various communication outlets professionally but also in his free time on social media (currently mostly on TikTok, where he has 51.3k fans: @martijn_peters)
